Nintendo Wii Helps Cerebral Palsy Patients With Therapy
This just in: Nintendo Wii isn't just for fun anymore!
Researchers have been encouraging children with a certain type of cerebral palsy (hemiplegic) to play specially designed video games on the Wii, in order to improve muscle movement and hand-eye coordination. These games are designed to improve the patients' control over their disabled arm.
Ten children have been trying out the video games over the past few months and they have achieved "striking results".
Professor Janet Eyre says that children with hemiplegia find it difficult to use their weak arms.

evin Mintz has cerebral palsy. This condition has left him with limited use of his arms and legs, and has left him in a wheelchair for his entire life. It took Kevin almost 10 years of therapy to be able to speak and be understood.
But Kevin never let his handicap get him down. He did excellent in school and became an advocate for students with disabilities. His graduation from high school became his latest milestone in a string of success.
Cerebral Palsy Girl Heads to Beijing for Paralympics
Megan Muscat leaves on August 30 for Beijing as part of Canada's Paralympic team where she will compete in the 100 and 200 meter meter events.
"I'm so excited," she says. "I've been on Cloud 9 since Canada Day when I heard."
Megan was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at 18 months and has competed in world championships and won the bronze medal last year in the 200m at the Para Pan Ams in Rio de Janiero.
Megan actually started her athletic career in high school as a wrestler. "I was undefeated in the four major meets," she says.
Cerebral Palsy Man Comes Out Of Retirement
Bill Riddle was born with cerebral palsy. Despite the difficulties this may have caused in his life, Riddle has been an athlete and an inspiration to us all.
Bill says that he started wheelchair racing when he was at the rehabilitation center in 1986, and he raced up until 15 years ago, when he retired at age 27. Retirement didn't go over well with Riddle, but he wasn't sure if he had what he had what it took to get back into the game.
Cerebral Palsy Isn't Going to Stop This Karate Kid
Seven-year-old Connor Kemp is a champ. Despite having cerebral palsy since birth, he's decided to take up the rough n' tumble sport of karate at the Newmarket Leisure Centre with his brother Jack.
Some of the moves have been modified so Connor, who is in a wheelchair, can join in. So far he's been practicing his karate-style punches. His parents believe that Karate will help Connor to strengthen his upper body.
Dog Returned to Girl With Cerebral Palsy
For many people, a dog is more than just a pet, but a member of the family. But for two-year-old Evalyn Wise (a young girl with cerebral palsy)her dog is a highly trained source of therapy.
So imagine young Evalyn's disappointment when a man named Mike took the dog without permission.
"Our neighbor has lung cancer, so we went down to visit and brought Tobi to cheer her up," said Wise. "On Memorial Day, we cooked dinner with them, and Mike made an offer to buy Tobi for $500. I told him that Evalyn was very attached to Tobi and he was not for sale at any price."
